Matt's musical journey began with an explosion at his father's Belfast music store, where a salvaged trombone set the stage for his future. Uniquely drawn to jazz, he later earned a scholarship to study music in London but found his education outside the classroom in the odd corners of the city's music scene. Matt's career kicked off with electro-swing band Sam and The Womp, then a few tours with ska legends Bad Manners, a brief cameo with The Pogues, Brian May and Coolio, before a pivotal audition for George Ezra's band. Life was suddenly all luxury arena tours, private jets and Glastonbury performances. The newfound stability allowed Matt to pursue a solo album. Collaborating with producer Cian Boylan at Camden Studios Dublin, they crafted 'Sit Back Down Again', twelve tracks, a blend of New Orleans soul, deep lyricism, and '60s R&B. The album's themes of being lost, alone, fighting to find your way, and dream-chasing mirror his life, especially the heartfelt tribute to his late sister Catherine in the title track.
With contributions from world-class musicians from various bands and Grammy-winning mixing from Ruadhri Cushnan, the record is both a personal catharsis and a relatable listener experience. Matt's stories, from broken romances to rooftop drinking, offer vivid, universal snapshots of emotion.
